PC Club/Group

Suggested revised format: Monthly meetings, general discussion & presentations by members that feel up to doing this, but NOT essential!  Other details as per Programme.  Queries to David 01603 458831.  Starting October 29th (if we go ahead, short of numbers at present).

 

PLAY READING - Taverham      2.00-4.00pm

Commencing: 8 October.  Do you fancy swopping your own persona for that of a different character once a month?  If so, why not join us for a sociable afternoon reading through mostly light-hearted but sometimes more serious works by various playwrights.

 

CHASTI COFFEE MORNING – Felthorpe    10.30am-12.30pm

Coordinator:  Anne Smith   Tel: 754151    Fortnightly – Friday

Commencing:  24 September.  An opportunity to meet other U3A members in an informal, friendly atmosphere.  Chat about anything from world affairs to local news.  Members invited to bring any leaflets/information which may be of interest to the group.

 

PHILOSOPHY FOR FUN, YEAR ONE –  Norwich   10.00a.m.-12.00noon

Commencing:  27 September.  A serious but not academic look at philosophy and its methods.  A repeat of last year’s course for an entirely new group.  Areas studied will include ethics, epistemology, aesthetics and religious philosophy.

 

U3A NORWICH CHESS CLUB – Norwich    10.00am-12.00noon

Coordinator:  Dannie Nicholas  Tel: 01508 493655   Monthly – 3rd Monday

Commencing:  18 October.  A chess club for the tuition of learners; the mentoring of improvers; and the provision of match opportunities for confident players.  (Confident players will be expected to act as mentors to improvers).  Learners will be taught by two experienced chess teachers.

U3A Norwich Chess club will meet on the 3rd Monday of each month from 10am to midday at Ryrie Court, Unthank Road. The first meeting will be on October 18. £1  each per session to pay for the hire of the venue. U3A Norwich committee has provided funds for new chess sets -THANK YOU!!!. The club will provide tuition for learners, mentoring for improvers, and match opportunities for confident players. Confident players will be asked to mentor improvers but will always be offered a proper match as well if possible. A league for players will be set up, with a  U3A NORWICH CHESS CUP to be won at the end of the year. Two tutors of club standard play and experienced in teaching chess and running clubs will be available, one to teach learners, the other to organise and help improvers and players. Learner and improvers will be given chess assignments between meetings to encourage their development, if they wish.

There are currently some places left in the group. Come and do bloodless battle!! Perfect for dark winter nights. Can be played face to face, by email, against a computer, even by snailmail. And five year-olds can batter grandparents into quick submission - learn how to defend yourself!
